BBHEADER8415So, yesterday I decided to do something unexpected.

I bought my domain.

I can’t express how excited I am to launch and take the next steps to grow my blog. I have learned that blogging is something I want to pursue seriously, so instead of making it “just a hobby,” I want it to be part of my everyday life—which it is, but I want my blog to grow.

I am thankful for every one of my subscribers, so I hope you’ll join me on my new website.

I will still be blogging about beauty, fashion and health; but I’ve decided to incorporate some lifestyle posts on my new site as well.

Thanks so much for all your support on my blog; and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the next few months.

A Typical Day in my Life

I’ve been seeing some bloggers share “A typical day in my life” posts and I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon. Personally, I think it’s interesting to see how people plan out their day, or what they do on a day-to-day basis.

So, I’ve compiled a typical day in my life that includes work, school work, working out and blogging as the main focus because those four things take up most of my day. I’ve recently changed jobs, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. Sometimes, you need to know when it’s time for a change. For the most part, this job change has been positive for me.

As far as working out, I’ve been trying different workouts such as Pilates, Yoga, and a combination of cardio and strength-training. I’m always curious to know what type of workouts other bloggers love, so if you have been loving a new workout, let me know in the comments!

Now, I’m curious to know what a typical day looks like for you. Leave a comment below telling me what a typical day looks like for you!

Summer Fashion Trend: Pineapples

BB8315Above images from Francesca’

I might sound biased because pineapple is one of my favorite fruits, but I am obsessed with the pineapple craze this summer. From accessories to decor or clothing, I have been seeing pineapples featured everywhere.

I thought it would be fun to do a post featuring some of my favorite items I’ve found from Francesca’s sporting this summer trend. Here are five of my favorites:

Jewelry Holder: This holds everyday jewels you wear regularly while staying festive for summer. If you’re looking for functional and festive tray to hold your jewelry, this holder is perfect for you.

Shorts: Who doesn’t love fabric shorts? They’re comfortable and are prettier than your standard denim shorts. If you’re looking to step out of your comfort zone, pick up these shorts to wear to a bon fire with your friends.

Phone Case: If you change up your phone case based on the season, add this one to your collection. It’s beach worthy and will keep you thinking about summer even when the warm days have passed.

Canvas Shoes: I love canvas shoes because they’re comfortable and versatile. Why not try pineapple-patterned ones? Take a navy dress and make it pop with these shoes. You’ll create a comfortable, chic look.

Watch: Put your Michael Kors away for the day and bring out this watch for a day of summer fun. The cork band gives the watch a laid-back look if you don’t want to worry about ruining your fancy watch.

What item is your favorite? Have you been wearing anything with pineapples on it this summer, or are you not a fan of this trend? Leave a comment below!

How To: Feel (truly) Happy

How do you define happiness? Maybe it’s spending time with loved ones or living a life you’re proud of. We all have different interpretations of happiness, but there is common ground on what makes us feel happy. I’m going to talk about fives areas in your life where you can “happify” (yeah, I went there) your life. You’ll add some bliss in your life knowing that happiness doesn’t have to be a struggle.

Find your bliss:

What do you love to do? This can be in terms of your career or with the hobbies you do everyday. Find what makes you the most happy and spend the rest of your life doing that. Whatever it is (career or not) it should make you want to get up in the morning with a smile on your face. Now go find your bliss!

Cultivate meaningful relationships:

I would rather have five best friends who I can trust my life with rather than have 20 friends who don’t know much about me. I appreciate the people in my life and I’m comfortable with a small friend group. My relationships are meaningful and important, and I wouldn’t change them for the world.

Express gratitude:

Instead of thinking about the bad things in your life (low-paying job and paying high rent) think about what’s good in your life (you have a job and aren’t homeless). It’s easy to lose sight of positivity, but it’s important to keep life in perspective. You have a lot to be thankful for, so express gratitude.

Love unapologetically:

You know the saying: live, laugh, love? Apply this mantra to your everyday life. If you don’t like your job, quit. Have negative people in your life, get rid of them. Don’t like where you live, move! You deserve a life where you love everything: your job, the people in your life, where you live, etc.

Begin the day with a plan:

People who don’t plan are more stressed. Think about it: you wake up with 24 hours and you have no idea how you’re going to spend it. If you want to feel stress-free and have a productive day, take ten minutes of your morning to plan your to-do list. You’ll get things done and feel accomplished.

What makes you truly happy? How do you live a happy life? Make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments below!

What I Wore Wednesday: Whimsical Whites

BB72215-4 BB72215-5 BB72215-2 BB72215-1 BB72215-3

I have become obsessed with wearing whites this summer. I love the look of a crisp, clean outfit. To be honest, there’s nothing better than finding a color palette that you love. My color palette depends on my mood and has recently consisted of neutral colors like white, black and navy with few bright colors.

This week has been divided between working and more working. Unfortunately, I haven’t had much time to enjoy summer weather or time with friends. I keep telling myself that the work will pay off in the end!

Sometimes, we can’t find time to enjoy life, and it’s important to remember to schedule time for yourself. Even if it’s as little as 30 minutes a day to unwind with a book, take a walk or chat with a friend. Although we have commitments, time for ourselves is important.

Today, I’m taking the time to enjoy a day off of work, school work and blogging. Instead, I’ll be spending time relaxing and freeing my mind of all any responsibilities. I plan to treat myself to one of my favorite foods (sushi). Here’s my What I Wore Wednesday line up:

Top: Ann Taylor LOFT

Jeans: Old Navy

Sunglasses: Francesca’s

Wedges: DSW

Today, in the mist of your busy week, I encourage you to take time for yourself and put aside any work for the day. We all deserve it! Make sure to like this post if you want to see my outfits from my trip to D.C. next week Wednesday.

Beauty Gift Guide: The Bronze BFF

Products mentioned: St. Tropez Tanning Essentials Face & Body Lotion ($16); Too Faced The Little Black Book of Bronzers ($49); tarte Brazilliance Face And Body Self Tanner ($39); Laura Mercier Baked Blush Bronze Compact ($36); Fresh Seaberry Exfoliating Soap ($16.50)

If you have best friends who are obsessed with makeup, it’s only natural to get them something beauty related for their birthdays. But after a few years, you begin buying the same items: Bath & Body Works, Sephora gift cards or a new Essie nail polish.

It’s time to switch it up for your bestie.

Summer, especially in 2015, is all about safe tanning and achieving a gorgeous glow without laying in a tanning bed. It only seems natural to help your best friend this summer and pick up some safe-sun products. Here are some of my favorites:

St. Tropez face and body lotion:

This is an inexpensive lotion that will help you achieve an all-over glow. What’s great about this product is that it gives you a streak-free tan that lasts for up to 24 hours.

Little black book of bronzers:

With eight signature bronzers to choose from, your bestie will have plenty of options for a bronzed look. This is perfect if you’re not sure what bronzer she likes. The more bronzers, the better.

Tarte self tanner:

This self-tanner contains ingredients your skin will love including: maracuja oil, which replenishes and brighten skin’s appearance and vitamin E, which protects against damage.Your skin will thank you!

Bronze compact:

The lightweight formula won’t weight you down during warm summer days. It’s enriches with vitamin E and jojoba oil, which will work wonders for your skin.

Exfoliating soap:

Get rid of dry, dull skin while cleansing the body to reveal a smooth complexion. Before applying self-tanner, use the exfoliating soap to give your skin the smooth, sleek texture you want.

Do you have other self-tanning products for an (almost) summer glow? Make sure to leave your suggestions in the comments!

Healthy summer treats!

Summer is a time where I’m looking to make easy treats that aren’t unhealthy. It can be difficult if you want to keep things fresh and satisfying, which is why I’m sharing three healthy summer treats you can make at home.

The “Doughnut” Bagel:

Yes. I want to eat doughnuts just as much as you do. But for a healthy (and pretty) option, you can make a bagel that looks like a doughnut. Trust me, it’s Instagram worthy.

You’ll need: 1 bagel thin (110 calories); 2 tablespoons of cream cheese (60 calories); food coloring and sprinkles. Mix one drop of food coloring with the cream cheese, spread onto the bagel and add some sprinkles. Yes, it’s that easy to make a pretty, low-calorie treat.

Banana “Ice Cream” Sandwiches:

Ice cream sandwiches can be high in calories. Why not try a mini, frozen treat that’s under 350 calories? You can serve these to friends on a hot day by the pool, or keep them in the freezer on hand when you’re craving a sweet treat.

You’ll need: 1/2 of a banana (55 calories); 2 tablespoons of peanut butter (190 calories) and 2 Hershey chocolate pieces (100 calories). Cut the banana into thin slices and spread the peanut butter on one slice. Top the banana “sandwich” with another slice. Melt Hershey pieces in microwave in three 15-second intervals. Dunk sandwich into chocolate. Freeze for about 15-20 minutes.

Fruit Pops:

If you’re sick of having the same fruit salad every morning, it’s time to switch it up with a cool treat that is also sweet. With minimal calories, fruit pops are a fun way to spice up how you eat fruit (occasionally). You’ll enjoy this on a hot summer day.

You’ll need: strawberries (25 calories), pineapple (40 calories) and two Hershey chocolate pieces (100 calories). Cut a few strawberries and pineapple pieces and put them on a toothpick. After you microwave the chocolate (same directions as above) drizzle it over the fruit. Leave them in the fridge for a cold treat with a sweet taste.

What treat do you want to try? Do you have any simple, healthy summer recipes you want to share? Make sure to leave a comment below!

What I Wore Wednesday: embracing a busy schedule

Sometimes you need to embrace a busy schedule. I’m in my second, eight week-long class for the summer. Yes, my entire summer is dedicated to work, school work, blogging, working out, and spending time with my boyfriend and family during the rest of my free time.

Life is busy; but it’s okay to embrace a busy lifestyle. Although it’s important to take it slow and appreciate the little moments, it’s equally important to know that being busy and living a crazy life can be fun and exciting. However you decide to live your life this summer, make sure you’re happy because that’s all that matters.

For today’s What I Wore Wednesday, I was able to get some school work done, workout, prepare some blog posts for next week, go to happy hour with my best friend (my mom) and plan out the upcoming week (work schedule) before my trip to D.C. If you want to see D.C. photos of what I did, what I wore, etc., make sure to like this post! (Also, if you have restaurant recommendations, make sure to leave a comment below.)

Top: Forever 21: I’m obsessed with this top because I can easily wear it all-year long.

Shorts: Ann Taylor Loft: Scalloped detailing is my favorite trend for summer right now.

Sunglasses: Aldo: I’ve been on the hunt for new sunglasses and picked these up last weekend.

Hat: Aldo: Another item I’ve been searching for and finally found this weekend.

Remember that it’s okay to be busy and productive; but also remember it’s important to take a break and step back from the world to relax. As long as you’re living a happy, healthy life, then it’s okay.

How do you stay balanced when life is busy? Make sure to leave your tips in a comment below!

Lusting for Lush: 5 products on my wish list

BB71315(c) Above image created by Blissfully Brunette. All photos are from

Who doesn’t love Lush? Recently, I’ve been lusting for some of their products for summer; and I’ve created a top five list of what I’ve been wanting most. If you have tried these products, or have other recommendations of other products to try for summer, make sure to leave a comment below!

Brightside Bubble Bar ($10.95): This bubble bar reminds me of everything I love about summer. If you love the colors of a summer sunset and fruity, citrus scents—you’ll love this, too! I’m daydreaming about unwinding and soaking in a bath after a long day at the beach.

Ocean Salt Cleanser ($21.95):  This coconut cream and sea salt scrub will remove dead skin cells, which leaves your skin feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Coconuts remind me of summer, which is why it’s one of my top scents for the season. I also love scrubs for summertime.

Putty for your Hands Wash ($8.95): If you like products that are multi-purposeful, this soap-lotion combination is perfect to clean dry, sore hands. Any products I can use for different purposes is worth the splurge for me! Or it’s great for the guy who needs to give their hands some TLC.

Percup Massage Bar ($11.95): This massage bar is for all the coffee-lovers out there. Coffee beans will stimulate and hydrate your skin while easing your sore muscles. I’ve tried (and loved) every massage bar from Lush, so I can see myself loving this one, too.

Pink Bath Bomb ($4.95): For all the Audrey Hepburn fans, the pink bath bomb is for you! Inspired by the queen herself circa Breakfast at Tiffany’s, this vanilla and tonka bean mix will leave your bath bright pink and freshly scented.

What products have you tried from Lush this summer? Make sure to leave your favorites in the comments!

How to stay motivated {6 easy tips}

For some people, staying motivated is easy because they set a goal and work to achieve it. For others, it’s not as simple because we might lack will power or motivation altogether to stay healthy. It can also be difficult because you’re tempted by alcohol, desserts and other delicious food in summer. Plus, who wants to spend hours in the gym every week? It’s easy to lose sight of motivation if you’re not committed, so it’s important to set your intentions for your goals and commit to working at them.

Here are six effective tips to stay motivated all summer long, so you can accomplish all of your health and fitness goals. You’ll add a little bliss to your life knowing you can wake up and feel motivated instantly.

Organize and Create a plan:

Think of your schedule: when do you work or have other commitments? When is the best time to workout? Can you prep meals in advanced? How often will you work out/how long? Make sure to answer these questions and organize your plans into your schedule. Failing to plan is planning to fail.

Be realistic, but confident:

Are you looking to lose 20 pounds before September? That might be realistic for some, but it might not be for everyone. Or begin with a smaller goal and work your way up. Your goals don’t have to be weight-loss orientated. They can also be related to eating healthier or toning your body.

Get inspired:

Cut out inspirational words and pictures! Put the collage  where you’ll see it every day, so you’re reminded to get your workout in for the day in and eat healthy. This way, you’ll remember that you have goals you want to reach, so you’ll feel motivated from the time you wake up in the morning.

Change it up:

You won’t feel motivated if you’re going to the gym for an hour and running on the treadmill everyday. Instead, get outside. Go for a hike with friends, bike with your boyfriend or try Pilates. Changing up your routine will confuse your muscles, which means a better workout for you!

Follow the 90/10 rule:

For me, diet is the toughest part of staying motivated because I love dessert. However, it’s not good if you’re looking to be healthy. Eat healthy 90 percent of the time and cheat 10 percent of the time. Here’s a rule of thumb: if you eat five meals a day (35 meals a week) you can cheat 31 of those 35 meals.

Stay positive:

Your attitude will make or break your progress. Keep track of your goals on a weekly basis. It doesn’t have to be your weight. Did you do 10 more squats this week than the previous week? That’s a goal to celebrate. Just remember to smile through the journey and keep going.

How do you stay motivated? Make sure to leave a comment below sharing your favorite tips!

Summer Outfit Inspiration

BB7815Above image created by Blissfully Brunette (c)

Summer is one of my favorite seasons because I’m constantly inspired by new outfits, trends and styles. It’s the season where I tend to experiment the most with my style because there are so many options. Some of you might not have found your summer fashion inspiration; but that’s okay because I’m here to add a little bit of bliss to your life. Hopefully, you’ll feel inspired to explore your options for fashion this summer and try something new! Here are three outfits I’m inspired by and loving for summer:

 1. Co-ordinates:

Taylor Swift has mastered the art of co-ordinates: it’s basically a trendy “two piece suit” that’s comfortable and chic for summer. It reminds me of a dressed-up version of a romper (without the stress of a one piece). You can easily incorporate this outfit into your closet regardless of your style.

2. White and denim:

You can never go wrong with the classic “summer” statement: a white top and denim shorts or jeans. What I love about this look is that you can pair bold, bright accessories to create a fun look for summer. However you decide to wear this look, it’s versatile and promising for your wardrobe.

3. Full, midi skirts:

Whether you want to wear a solid midi skirt and dress it up with colorful tops and accessories, or you wear a printed skirt, the midi skirt is a must-have for summer inspiration. This is another versatile piece where you can play with your style and try new trends.

What outfits inspire you for your summer style? Make sure to leave a comment below!

Feeling more confident [despite your flaws]

We all have features we don’t like about ourselves. I’ve always had a big nose (long story short: I broke my nose by running into a medal bird bath) and I used to be self-conscious about it. I wouldn’t take pictures because I thought everyone would make fun of my nose. I also have Keratosis Pilaris on my arms, which are small, red bumps on your skin caused by a build-up of keratin. I would hate wearing sleeveless tops because I thought everyone saw the bumps.

We all have imperfections we don’t like, but I don’t think we should focus on our flaws and allow them to hold us back from anything.I spent years trying to perfect how I looked so people wouldn’t notice my nose. I would cover my arms in long-sleeve tops in the middle of summer. I was only concerned with whether or not people would see my flaws.

The truth is, no one has ever noticed my arms. When I meet friends and I finally said something about my nose, arms, etc., they would say “I’ve never even noticed the bumps on your arms.” Or, “I don’t think your nose is big at all.”

Of course, maybe they’re just trying to be nice; but the reality is that you see your own flaws a lot more than a stranger or friend. You might think everyone notices an imperfection, but they might never know until you bring it up.

So why are we so harsh on ourselves; and how can we become more confident with our ourselves despite the features we don’t like about ourselves? Here are a few tips to add some bliss in your life [regardless of your imperfections]. Feeling confident is important and we need to remember that.

Think about how you present yourself:

Smile more often. Fix your posture and walk properly. Whatever you need to do to give yourself a small confidence boost—do it. It will not only help with your self-esteem, but people will perceive you positively. You’ll build confidence with ease with minimal effort.

Know your worth:

Repeat after me: you are worthy of living a life of happiness. Don’t let your flaws or weaknesses hold you back. Don’t seek approval from other people. The only person you need to please is yourself. You will always be worthy and you will always be enough. Never think otherwise.

Find mental strength:

Even if you’re confident and comfortable with yourself, it’s difficult to stay mentally strong in a world where women are taught to attain certain standards of beauty. However you find mental strength, make sure it’s part of your daily life like writing or talking with a friend.

I hope you feel more blissful knowing you can feel confident even with features you don’t necessarily love. Remember that you’re beautiful and your imperfections are part of that beauty.

What features are you self-conscious about? Make sure to share your thoughts below!

How to recover [from a bad day of eating]

We’ve all been there. You have a few days where you eat perfectly: a variety of fruits, vegetables and lean protein with some necessary carbohydrates. No desserts, sugary drinks, or unhealthy snacks.

After a few days or weeks of eating healthy, you cave to temptation. You have a full-on eating binge. You ate three bowls of pasta, a dessert or two, multiple cups of coffee, some chips, and anything else your doctor wouldn’t recommend to eat.

First, it’s okay. Bad days happen. You’re not perfect and you shouldn’t expect perfection all the time. Mistakes are part of life and you can recover from this. Disclaimer: I want you to know it’s okay to give into cravings. Treating yourself with a chocolate bar is not the same as eating dessert for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Bad days and treats are two different things.

Although it’s okay to allow yourself cheat days or cheat meals, you don’t want it to ruin your healthy eating or healthy lifestyle altogether. You’ll add some bliss in your life knowing you’ve taken the steps you correct your bad day, and make sure you focus on tomorrow.

Don’t dwell on your mistakes:

As I’ve said before, we all make mistakes and that’s okay. Don’t let your one day of bad eating affect your upcoming days. Think of it as a lesson learned. Move on, and make sure you don’t dwell on it. It will only make you feel guilty and make you feel worse.

Find your bad periods & correct them:

Do you tend to crave carbs in the morning, or do you eat ice cream late at night? We have times of the day where we feel the urge to eat poorly or make bad eating decisions. Find when you’re most likely to give in and fix it. Schedule time to workout in the evening to stop late-night snacking, etc.

Plan for the next three days:

I say three days instead of one day because it’ll take 72 hours for your body to adjust from the bad eating and focus itself on eating healthy again. Once you make it over three days, the desire to eat dessert and salty foods will decrease. Eating healthy will come more natural.

Focus on hydration:

Sometimes, we think we are hungry when we are actually thirsty. That’s because we jump to eating when we are bored, tired, etc. If you struggle to hydrate throughout the day, set a timer or reminder on a post-it note on drinking a certain amount of water. It’ll help reach your suggested intake.

Set a goal and stick to it:

Do you want to eat more vegetables throughout the day, or focus on your workout routine more regularly? Whatever your goal is: set it, stick to it and make it happen. You are capable of anything and you will achieve your goals with determination and discipline.

How do you recover from bad eating days? Make sure to leave a comment below!

The Romper Rave: Clothing Haul

BB7115From left to right: GAP ($9), Target ($24), Target ($12) and Francesca’s Collection ($24)

I haven’t done a haul in a long time. This summer, I’ve been looking for one particular item: rompers. The last time I owned a romper was during the early years of high school. After six years, I’ve grown out of my only two rompers I owned. So, I decided now would be a good time to hop back on this trend.

What I love about rompers is how versatile they are. Think about it: instead of worrying about choosing the perfect top to pair with pants, jewelry and shoes. It can be a long process for any woman to get ready in the morning. Why not add a little bliss to your morning routine by wearing a romper. The only items you need to add to your look are shoes and a cardigan (when necessary).

Within the last week, I bought four rompers. Two from Target, one from Francesca’s Collection and one from GAP. All four are perfect for summertime: with bright colors and bold patterns, I’ll be sure to stand out in a crowd this season. I also purchased one all-black romper because it can be worn in spring, summer or fall.

The romper from GAP, which reminds me of Hawaii with the floral pattern and sunset-like colors, was only $9. Yes, $9. I was so happy to get this deal. The two rompers from Target were “buy one get one 50 percent off” ($24 and $12). The best part is that both rompers from Target have pockets (basically, every girl’s dream with clothing). And the romper from Francesca’s was $24 as well. So, four rompers for under $75. I’d say these were worth the money.

So next time you’re looking for an easy outfit to throw on last-minute, or looking for a fun summer outfit to wear throughout July and August, opt for a romper. You won’t regret adding simplicity in your life with this piece.

Do you wear rompers in summer? Where have you purchased your favorite ones? Leave your comments below!

Feeling comfortable in your own skin

Most of my posts about beauty are DIY recipes, product wish lists, etc. Today’s post doesn’t fit into one of those categories. The more I read about women and their insecurities makes me want to write more posts about the topic.

Today, we are talking about confidence, insecurities and more beauty standards. Unfortunately, the world we live in creates these standards of beauty; and women were supposed to fit these standards. You may know some of these example: sleek, shiny hair, clear skin, perfectly groomed bodies at all times—the list can go on and on. But not all women have the genes for every “perfect” feature society deems necessary.

So that’s why I think it’s time we get comfortable.

Not all of us have gorgeous hair. If you see me in humidity, my frizz stands out like no other. My hair isn’t perfectly straight, sleek and shiny. Most days, I don’t blow dry my hair or straighten it. I prefer my natural curls. We should be comfortable with our natural hair.

Not all of us have clear skin. Sometimes we eat, drink and don’t take care of our skin the way we should; or we follow the “clear skin bible” and still have blemishes. That doesn’t mean we should hide our faces with tons of makeup because we don’t want society to judge us. We should feel comfortable with a makeup-less face whenever we feel like it.

There’s also a standard that women should stay well-groomed: hair trim every six weeks, eyebrow wax every three weeks, other body waxes and shaving regularly. It never ends. If you don’t want to keep up with grooming every single day then it’s time to get comfortable with yourself.

I think it’s important to mention that it’s okay if you feel comfortable with a full face of makeup, grooming daily, spending time on your hair, etc. There is nothing wrong with taking the time to maintain yourself. However, I think it’s also important to know it’s okay if you don’t want to do those things. Sometimes, we feel pressured to live a certain way that we become comfortable with doing things we don’t want to do.

I’m here to tell you that it’s okay to be yourself—your natural features are beautiful and you don’t deserve to do things just for the name of beauty. It’s time women create their own standards because we are flawless no matter what our features are.

What beauty feature do you love about yourself the most? Make sure to leave a comment below!

Rejuvenating June: Series Post 4

In my previous Rejuvenating June post, I talked about juice and tea cleanses and the benefits of cleansing your body. Detoxing isn’t only about what you nourish your body with. It’s all about balance with your mind, body and soul. Here are 10 ways you can detox aside from cleanses.

Revamp your fitness routine:

You don’t need to jog for 30 minutes everyday. If you hate your fitness routine, try different options like kickboxing, Pilates, step class, weight-resistance training or cycling. The more variety, the better. This will help you lose weight quickly and keep your mind on top of its game.

Drink detox water:

Why have plain water when you can mix in up with different fruits and vegetables? Try adding lemons, berries and cucumbers to your water for a clarifying mix that will taste better than a sugary drink. This will help you reach the intake of water for the day without even thinking about it.

Are you always thinking about something? You have so many thoughts, ideas and can’t stop your mind? Meditation helps calm your mind and helps you to focus on breathing and being present in the moment. First meditate for 2 minutes, then 5, 10, etc. You’ll see how much you’ve progressed.

Get outside:

Did you know spending time in nature makes you more happy? Instead of walking on the treadmill or using the elliptical, take your workout outdoors. Hike in the woods, kayak with friends on the lake or bike on a trail. You’ll help your mind and body equally.

Keep a journal:

Detoxing the mind is also important. We have a lot of thoughts in one day, and sometimes we might have problems, stresses and other challenges we are battling. Keep a journal and record down the good, bad, ugly—basically whatever you want. It’ll help clear your mind frequently.

Write five things you’re thankful for everyday:

Expressing gratitude is something we all need to work on. Regardless of out life situations, we all have something to be thankful for. Every morning, write down five different things you’re thankful for, repeat everyday, and watch your happiness grow with ease.

Stretch when you wake up and before bed:

If you haven’t picked up yoga, try some simple poses for 15 minutes every morning and evening. This will get your body ready to take on the day, or prepare you for a night of rest. Either way, you’ll stretch you body and release toxins.

Practice breathing:

This isn’t something we do often. We need to appreciate breathing by taking full, deep breaths. You can practice this at night before bed (it will help you fall asleep faster) and during the day. With proper oxygen, you’ll body can release the bad from your system.

Create a vision board:

What inspires you to be healthy? Find your favorite fitness quotes, photos of healthy recipes and workout ideas and make a collage on a cork board. Keep it in a place where you’ll see it every day like your office space. You’ll be reminded why detoxing is necessary for healthy living.

Surround yourself with positive people:

You’re a product of your environment. When you surround yourself with positive people, you will naturally become more positive. If you have negative people, they will bring you down. You need to actively seek happiness through positive energy and optimism.

How do you detox your mind, body and soul? Make sure to leave a comment below!

How to: Develop your personal style

Maybe you’re reconsidering how you define your style, or you have never defined your style at all. It’s okay to feel confused on how to define and create your style in your wardrobe. This post will add some insight on how to find and develop your best style. You’ll add some bliss to your life knowing you can confidently strut the streets and shop with your style in mind.

Take time to find inspiration:

Yes, I’m giving you permission to buy magazines or spend hours on Pinterest and Instagram. Search different style inspiration outfits based on things you like. If you love coastal, nautical themes, search them online to understand the idea of that style.

Try something completely new:

If you’ve always based your outfits on current trends, opt for buying pieces that are classic and timeless. Or if you only stick with black and white clothing, try bright neon colors. It’s okay to experiment and play with your clothes. You might find something new you love.

Don’t confine yourself to one style:

Don’t feel like you need have all your clothes be striped, navy blue or white with anchors on them. You can develop your style without having your entire closet be uniformed. Keep in mind the different colors and trends you can incorporate to complement your style.

But have an idea of what fits into your style:

If you know what does and doesn’t fit into your personal style, you won’t worry about excessive shopping because you’ll stick to what works best in your style. If you love feminine pieces, you might not be a fan of Bermuda shorts and a polo. It’s okay to branch out, but know what will work and not work.

Clean out your closet:

Okay, so now you have an idea of what you like and don’t like in your style. Now, it’s time to make it official by cleaning out your closet of anything that doesn’t fit into your newly discovered style. Take out anything old, torn or doesn’t express your personal style.

Build the basic pieces and colors:

Your style is “bohemian chic,” now you have to find go-to pieces and colors you’ll wear regularly. Choose three staple colors (in this example: brown, white and blue) then piece one or two accent colors (purple and red) to mix. Find clothing that fits the style and color combinations you’ve decided.

What if you want to change your style:

You shouldn’t want to keep one style forever. Change is a natural part of life. As your grow older, your personal style may change several times. You might love bohemian chic for a few years then change to classic and chic. That’s okay. The point is for your style is to be a reflection of you.

How do you define your personal style? Are you trying to redefine your style? Make sure to leave a comment below!

Why you should exfoliate

Keeping up with a beauty routine can be exhausting for women. We need to learn about all these different regimens and products that are “vital” to our routine. But how can we incorporate these beauty habits in our routine without breaking the bank? How do we know what is necessary and what isn’t?

Hopefully, this post will shed light on the importance of exfoliating and how you can add in your routine with minimal spending. You’ll add some bliss in your life (especially your bank) when learning about exfoliating.

So why is exfoliating necessary?

Exfoliating, whether it’s your face or body, removes dead skin cells. This allows you to have brighter, clearer and smoother skin with minimal effort. It also acts as a deep clean for your pores, which removes any build up of sweat, acne, etc. You only need to exfoliate once to week for an effective clean.

All right, how much is this going to cost me?

That’s the best part of exfoliating—you can DIY exfoliating scrubs in your home. Chances are, you have the basic products to create different scrubs safe for your face and body. However, if you prefer to buy from the store, you can spend up to $30 or buy inexpensive ones.

I’ll stick with DIY. What’s you favorite recipe?

My go-to exfoliating scrub contains two ingredients. The best part is this helps to fade stretch marks on your body. Yep, that’s right. All you need are used coffee grounds and a little olive oil. I apply this on my skin and scrub consistently for about five minutes then rinse and shower as normal.

Some exfoliating scrubs are made with sugar and others with salt. What’s the difference?

Sugar scrubs are most often used on the face because they dissolve quickly in water and creates a mild scrub that won’t be harsh if you have sensitive skin. Most people recommend brown sugar in scrubs. Salt scrubs (sea salt not table salt) has anti-inflammatory properties, which is great if you have sore muscles in addition to clearing your pores. Normally, use sugar scrubs more often than salt scrubs because it’s not as rough on the skin.

I hope you have a better understanding of exfoliating and why it’s important. With easy DIY options, it’s easy to incorporate this in your beauty routine.

Do you exfoliate regularly? Do you have any DIY exfoliating scrub recipes or inexpensive scrubs to buy? Make sure to share your suggestions below!

Rejuvenating June: Series Post 3

A cleanse sounds like an intimidating word, but it’s not. A common misconception is that only celebrities can do cleanses. Another misconception about cleanses is that they’re unhealthy. These are both not true.

What is true about a cleanse? First, it can transform your body in a positive way. My goal is to shed light and bliss on the topic of cleanses; and help you overcome your anxiety about trying one. A two-week cleanse will help rejuvenate your life. Before you decide to begin a cleanse, make sure to check with a doctor to see if doing a cleanse or detox is a good option for your health.

So what is a cleanse?

A cleanse is a period of time where you are trying to get your system (body) in order. If you’re feeling bloated, fatigued, stressed, irritable and have low energy, you need a cleanse. Cleanses can be categorized as a juice cleanse or a tea cleanse. These are most popular. One isn’t necessarily better than the other. It’s all about what your preference is and what you can commit to.

What are the benefits of a cleanse?

For most people who complete a 14-day or 28-day cleanse can see results including: weight lose, increased metabolism, cleansed system, detoxified body, suppressed appetite and increased energy levels. Cleanses are great because they’re not meant to be done all-year long.

How often should you cleanse?

I think once a season (four times a year) is the most you should cleanse. Why? Because you’re giving your body the upkeep it needs without overdoing it. If you compete a cleanse for 28 days, four times a year, that’s 112 days of the year. I promise, you can commit to it. Or, you can complete two 14-day cleanses and two 28-day cleanses each year. There is no magic formula. It’s all about what you’re comfortable with.

How will this help me in the long run?

First, you’re going to clean out any of the bad stuff in your system. Second, when you’re on a cleanse, you’re most likely to pick up additional healthy habits such as exercising more and eating healthier. This will all come naturally when doing a cleanse. Also, you’ll feel less irritable and more energized, which can help increase your overall productivity throughout the year.

So, to cleanse or not to cleanse?

This is entirely up to you, but I can promise that whether you do a juice cleanse or a tea cleanse, you’ll see results in your health overall in addition to your happiness. Why not add a little bliss to your life?

Have you ever done a cleanse? Leave your comments and results below! If you haven’t, would you consider trying it?

WHAT TO WEAR: Work (Summer Edition)

BB61715Items Mentioned: White Dress; Mint Tunic; Blue Top; Patterned Blazer; Full Skirt.

Let’s be honest; warm weather doesn’t last forever (especially in Western New York) so you might not want to spend money on clothes you can only wear for five months of the year. But for work, there are some key essentials for summer wardrobe. The best part is you can incorporate these pieces into your work wardrobe for spring and fall.

The (not so little) White Dress:
I love white dresses for summer. They’re versatile in the workplace, especially when wearing blazers. They’re also great if you love wearing bright-colored accessories. Whether you want to dress this item up or down in the office, a white dress will allow you do accomplish this with ease.

The Tunic:

Tunics are underrated. Why? Because you can buy several tunics and none of them will be exactly the same, which is ample opportunity to maximize your closet for work attire. Pair them with pants or skirts for a casual, but business-appropriate look.

Plenty of Popovers:

Fitted clothing is out for summer. Opt for a twist on the classic button-down shirt with a popover. Instead of buttoning all the way down, they go mid length. They’re also loose-fitting, so you won’t feel uncomfortable during the day.

Bold Blazers:

Who said black blazers are the only option for work? Summer is the perfect excuse to go out and treat yourself to one or two vibrant blazers. Just make sure to keep the rest of your outfit simple with neutral colors, so the blazer acts as your statement piece.

Full Skirts:

It’s important to own a vast collection of skirts. Some days, you don’t want to wear your go-to tailored pants and blazer combo. Keep a collection of full skirts in your wardrobe in neutral colors like navy, black, grey and white. You can easily pair patterned tops and bold colors with this neutral base.

What work-appropriate pieces are essential for you during summer? Make sure to leave a comment below!

Beauty: Be your own kind of beautiful

I’m writing another blog post that was inspired when I wasn’t thinking about blogging at all. I’ve realized this is when I write based on passion instead of forcing creativity.

I stumbled across an Instagram account where the girl (keeping identity private) had a decent following. Her photos and videos were of her doing her makeup. I thought they were all stunning and unique. I appreciate when anyone has the guts to put themselves out there to the world.

Of course, everyone does their makeup differently; and I noticed people were leaving rude comments about how she was doing her makeup. Some comments included: “You’re only wearing so much makeup because you have no confidence” and “Real women aren’t afraid of showing their natural beauty.”

I was astounded.

I know there are mean people in the world, but there’s something that needs to be addressed here. Any individual should be able to do (or not do) whatever they want with their body. In this example, women who don’t wear makeup are just as beautiful as women who do wear makeup. Whether or not someone does their makeup should not define how beautiful they are.

This also goes back to a topic that has been discussed about frequently: women hating on other women. Women have it hard enough. We are constantly dealing with beauty standards and diminishing our self-esteem. Instead of tearing each other down, we need to lift each other up and be kind. We are in this together.

Let’s be honest; we are all different. And while some of us prefer to wear a face full of makeup everyday, some of us don’t. Some of us prefer to have tattoos, and some of us don’t. Some of us like to color our hair differently every month, and some of us have never colored our hair before. Regardless of what the scenario is, beauty isn’t a one-size-fits-all concept.

Every woman (and human being in general) deserves to feel beautiful in their own way. If you don’t have a similar taste, that’s okay. It’s just like clothing: we all have different styles, but one style isn’t better than the other.

Remember to be your own kind of beautiful; regardless of how you may define the word “beautiful.” You are worthy of expressing yourself and worthy of a life where you feel confident in your own skin.

How do you feel beautiful? What does beautiful mean to you? Make sure to leave a comment below!

Rejuvenating June: Series Post 2

When you hear the phrase “clean out your life,” it seems intimidating on the surface. What does that even mean? Why will this help you? How will this make you rejuvenated and blissful?

First, cleaning out your life isn’t a one-size-fits-all concept. It can mean something different for everyone. I clearly didn’t coin this term, but I have used it frequently for the past few years, and I’ve noticed people have no idea what I’m talking about when I say this.

Cleaning out your life from my perspective means to: simplify, organize, plan and change different aspects of your life. Similar to a new beginning. When I want to clean out my life, I want to simplify my space, donate items I don’t need anymore, organize everything there is to organize (closets, new planner for blogging and work, etc.) plan my short-term and long-term goals (and check my progress on previous goals) and change anything I feel that needs to be changed. Most people try this in January for the new year or in April/May for spring cleaning. But the point is that you don’t need a specific month to accomplish these things. It should be done when you feel it’s most needed.

That is a basic overview of my version of cleaning out my life. It’s a way for me to go through everything and know that I have clarity in my life. Think about it: you’ll have an organized planner, a list of goals you’re working toward, and a clean, minimal wardrobe and space.

So, why should you clean out your life?

Since it’s a month for rejuvenation, cleaning out your life seems like the perfect opportunity to prepare yourself for the upcoming months and feel stress free. It’s also good to take inventory (of everything). Check your closets, cabinets, cupboards, etc. and weed out old items you don’t need and toss them or donate them. Set aside 20 minutes to lay out your goals for the rest of 2015 and goals for 2016. Create a new diet and fitness routine. You can even make a five-year plan. Give yourself a little time each day for a week to complete all you want to do.

After you’re done simplifying, planning and organizing, it’s time to check in with yourself. How do you feel after? Do you find organizing therapeutic? (I know I do.) Does simplifying ease your stress? This is the important part: reflection. Write down how this time helped you to create a fresh start for yourself.

Have you ever “cleaned out your life?” was it a helpful, positive experience? Make sure to share your comments below!

The number doesn’t matter [on your clothes]

Sometimes, I feel inspired to write something when I’m in the moment, and I’ve decided this is something I need to talk about because people shouldn’t have to struggle with this problem.

How often do we get mad at ourselves when we change sizes? A little back story: from high school to my second year of college, I have been a consistent size 2 (sometimes a 4). After going on birth control, I gained weight and noticed I have more curves. I still fit into clothes that are a size 2 or 4, but I have to occasionally buy jeans or slim-fit pants in a size 6.

Needless to say, I was infuriated with myself. But why? It’s not like I can’t fit into any of my clothes in my closet. I just needed a larger size on two different occasions. That didn’t change my anger.

I want to talk about this because I know many people who change a size (they might not even gain a lot of weight) and they hate themselves. We shouldn’t feel pressured to stay the same size for the rest of our lives. Do we really think we are going to magically weigh 125 pounds and stay a size 2 forever? For some people, of course, this might be the case; but for the majority, it isn’t likely.

It’s okay you aren’t the same size from age 16 to age 25. Our bodies change. Clothing material is made different, which is why you’re one size at one store but a different size at another store. We need to stop worrying about numbers and worry about how we feel. Do you feel beautiful and confident in the clothes you’re wearing? If yes, great and if you don’t then try changing how you dress.

If you notice you have gained a little weight, don’t beat yourself up. You’re human and we are all imperfect. We need to remember that we aren’t living to be a certain size. You don’t deserve to add unnecessary stress in your life.

Remember that you’re beautiful regardless of your jean size or dress size. Beautiful people come in all shapes and sizes, and we should celebrate that—instead of putting ourselves down.

Do you struggle with changing clothing sizes? Make sure to leave your comments and thoughts below!

How to: Wash your hair [the right way]

I know what you’re thinking, “I already know how to wash my hair.” You might, but there is always room for improvement in the beauty world. Who knows, maybe you’ll learn something new about hair care, or you can teach a friend about these tips. If you’re looking to add some bliss to your roots, read these tips:

Wash your hair with cool water:

We all love and appreciate hot showers, but hot water damages your hair. It strips your hair of necessary moisture and oils, and increases your chance of split ends. If you can manage standing under a cool shower for five minutes, your hair will thank you.

Be mindful of how much shampoo you use:

The truth is, most of us way more shampoo than is necessary for a wash; and we wash too often. In reality, you should wash your hair every other day or every few days with only a quarter-sized amount of shampoo. This will help keep the natural oils healthy and clean.

Only lather shampoo at your scalp:

Why? Because you only need to shampoo the hair at the scalp. The best way to lather up is at your roots. The hair closest to the scalp is the youngest and most likely the oiliest, whereas the ends of your hair is the oldest and most likely the driest.

Apply conditioner wisely:

You only need conditioner at the ends of your hair. Don’t condition near the roots (for the same reason above). Your roots are naturally more oily, which means your ends need more love. Apply conditioner halfway down your hair to the tips. Leave in for two minutes and rinse.

Be mindful about how you dry your hair:

Stay away from hot tools as often as possible. They cause damage and breakage to your hair. Also, don’t be too quick to put your hair in a towel. This tugs and pulls on your hair (also causing damage). Instead, wrap your hair in a big cotton T-shirt.

Have you been washing your hair the right way? If not, what do you plan to improve on? Make sure to leave a comment below!

Rejuvenating June: Series Post 1

We all know down time is important; but oftentimes, we neglect this essential component of our daily lives. It’s important to remember we’re worthy of time that is our own to feel blissful. If you’re lacking time for yourself, read on to learn why you deserve it and how you can incorporate it into your schedule.

Why you need and deserve more time for yourself:

We all have obligations in life: work, relationships, health, cleaning and other commitments that take up our time. Sometimes, life can feel overwhelming. These everyday tasks can build up on us, and we begin feeling stressed if we don’t take time to refresh and rejuvenate. That’s why it’s important to forget about day-to-day problems.

This is something I personally struggle with. If I’m stressed out, it’s hard to overcome because it’s all I think about in the moment. Now, I have found activities that help me relax and act as my down time. Whether I’m walking my dog, writing, or working out, my mood is better with more down time.

If you’re slacking at work or chores around the house, it may be because you haven’t had time for yourself. We naturally decrease in productivity when we are stressed, so if you want to stay on track and feel balanced, take time to do something you enjoy.

You’re probably wondering, “How can I relax when I’m constantly on the go?”

I’m here to tell you that you CAN make time. Here are a few tips on how to do it:

Make a date with yourself once a week

Go to a coffee shop and read a book for an hour, treat yourself to dinner or go hiking for a few hours. Whatever you decide, make sure it’s something you’ll appreciate. If you write down on your calendar or to-do list “weekly date,” you’ll be more likely to stick to it.

Do what you love and schedule time for it at least three or four times a week

Maybe you love writing, baking, fishing, running or watching reality television. The point is to find what you love more than anything, and schedule that as part of your down time. It’s great to have a relaxing hobby. It’ll keep you in check of how much you truly appreciate it.

Take a personal day (from life)

Every three months (or every month), plan a day that’s entirely dedicated to you. Don’t make plans and treat yourself. Create your perfect day with activities you love. You’ll feel extra refreshed to keep you on top of your game. This helps if you need to plan ahead.

What will you do to make more down time for yourself? How do you spend your down time now? Make sure to leave a comment below!

How To: Create a minimalist wardrobe

Every spring, we go through a period of time where we donate and trash old clothes that don’t fit or we don’t wear anymore. What if I told you that you don’t have to do this annually and you can still have enough to wear? If you want your closet to feel a little bliss, try creating a minimalist wardrobe. Here are my top suggestions on where to begin:

Pick your palette:

Do you prefer warmer colors, or cool colors? Creating a palette that fits your personality and preference will help weed out colors you don’t need. Make sure your palette complements neutral colors. Cool colors (blues, greens and purples) are great with black, navy, grey, etc. The point is to remove anything that doesn’t work with your wardrobe and keep everything that’s versatile.

The purge:

Purging your clothes out of your wardrobe, especially if you’re a clothes hoarder, can be very difficult. Take small steps at a time. First go through everything that truly doesn’t fit your properly. Then go through everything you haven’t worn within the last year. Soon you’ll have the pieces you love and need most and get rid of anything unnecessary.

Be comfortable with wearing the same items frequently:

Sometimes, we develop “I have nothing to wear” syndrome because we have an overload of clothes that doesn’t suite our style, preference, etc. If you want to successfully create a minimalist wardrobe, you need to be confident in your closet and wearing those pieces regularly. You don’t need an outfit for everyday of the year. Your life will be more simple.

Take inventory regularly:

If you find that you’re shopping more and itching to buy new clothes, take inventory of your closet. Any time you purchase a new item, find something you can get rid of. This will save time, space and you’ll be able to continue your minimalist wardrobe. This goes for accessories like scarves, shoes, bags, etc. If you want to commit, it takes will power.

What tips do you have for creating a minimalist wardrobe? Do you currently have a lot of clothes and are looking to weed things out? Make sure to leave a comment below!

Top 10 Tips For Perfect Skin

Everyone wants flawless, model-worthy skin. But what tips are most important to help your skin? I’ve compiled a list of my top 10 tips to achieve perfect skin. You’ll add bliss to your life knowing you’ve found the right information on keeping your skin clear and clean.

Put the right food on your face:

DIY beauty is great because it’s inexpensive and effective. However, if you’re putting the wrong ingredients on your face, you won’t be helping your skin. Make sure you read and research what foods you should put on your skin for best results.

Never skip moisturizer:

Find a day moisturizer, a night moisturizer and use them religiously. Never skip on moisturizer even if you have oily skin. Your skin thinks you’re lacking oil and it will produce more oils, which can cause breakouts. A little goes a long way.

Know your skin type:

If you have oily skin, but you’re using products for dry skin, you’re not helping your skin. Make sure you know your skin type and buy the right products. This will make a huge difference in your skin care routine and how your skin looks overall.

Some people are intimidated about exfoliation, but it’s great in moderation. Once a week, exfoliate your entire body including your face. This will remove dead skin cells and brighten your skin. You’ll notice your skin shining all week long.

Skip the tanning bed:

This tip is obvious. Aside from getting skin cancer, tanning also causes premature wrinkles and can cause aging. It’s okay to have a beach day (if you’re wearing proper SPF) but don’t go to the tanning bed. This doesn’t help your skin in any way.

Get your beauty rest:

There’s a reason they call it “beauty” rest. Sleep helps restore your entire body including your skin. If you’re sleeping around 7 to 8 hours a night, you’re helping your skin restore itself. Don’t be afraid of extra rest for beauty health and physical health.

Wash your face (no excuses):

If you don’t remove your makeup or wash your face every morning and night, you’re breaking the cardinal skin care rule. You need to wash your face twice a day, everyday. No excuses. This removes bacteria, which decreases chances of acne problems.

Eat a balanced diet:

The food you put into your system also affects your skin. You can find a list of foods that benefit your skin. Make sure you’re eating fresh fruits, veggies in addition to healthy fats (like avocados). This will help your overall health including your skin.

Don’t be afraid to sweat:

Working out is not only beneficial for your physical, mental and emotional health, but it’s also good for your skin. Sweating removes toxins from your body. As long as you’re washing your face regularly, sweating will decrease your risk in breakouts, redness and other skin problems.

Water is your best friend:

I put this tip last because I want it to stick with you. You need to hydrate properly every single day. Aim for eight glasses of eight ounces of water. This flushes out toxins in your system and help keep skin glowing bright and get rid of acne, redness, etc.

Do you have have any tips to add to the list? What tips are your favorite? Make sure to leave a comment below!
