August is here, which means we only have a month left to enjoy the beach before summer is officially over (sobs). I don’t know about you, but I am not ready for summer to be over. There’s nothing I love more than warm weather, so it’s sad to know it’s almost over.

None! I go foundation-free in summer to keep my skin and fresh as possible in the summer heat.

Sunglasses. Hats make my head sweaty and that’s not a good feeling after a long day.

Anything by Taylor Swift because she’s amazing and all of her songs are addicting.

Lusting for Lush: 5 products on my wish list

Who doesn’t love Lush? Recently, I’ve been lusting for some of their products for summer; and I’ve created a top five list of what I’ve been wanting most. If you have tried these products, or have other recommendations of other products to try for summer, make sure to leave a comment below!

Feeling more confident [despite your flaws]

We all have features we don’t like about ourselves. I’ve always had a big nose (long story short: I broke my nose by running into a medal bird bath) and I used to be self-conscious about it. I wouldn’t take pictures because I thought everyone would make fun of my nose. I also have Keratosis Pilaris on my arms, which are small, red bumps on your skin caused by a build-up of keratin. I would hate wearing sleeveless tops because I thought everyone saw the bumps.

We all have imperfections we don’t like, but I don’t think we should focus on our flaws and allow them to hold us back from anything.I spent years trying to perfect how I looked so people wouldn’t notice my nose. I would cover my arms in long-sleeve tops in the middle of summer. I was only concerned with whether or not people would see my flaws.

The truth is, no one has ever noticed my arms. When I meet friends and I finally said something about my nose, arms, etc., they would say “I’ve never even noticed the bumps on your arms.” Or, “I don’t think your nose is big at all.”

Of course, maybe they’re just trying to be nice; but the reality is that you see your own flaws a lot more than a stranger or friend. You might think everyone notices an imperfection, but they might never know until you bring it up.

So why are we so harsh on ourselves; and how can we become more confident with our ourselves despite the features we don’t like about ourselves? Here are a few tips to add some bliss in your life [regardless of your imperfections]. Feeling confident is important and we need to remember that.

Think about how you present yourself:

Smile more often. Fix your posture and walk properly. Whatever you need to do to give yourself a small confidence boost—do it. It will not only help with your self-esteem, but people will perceive you positively. You’ll build confidence with ease with minimal effort.

Know your worth:

Repeat after me: you are worthy of living a life of happiness. Don’t let your flaws or weaknesses hold you back. Don’t seek approval from other people. The only person you need to please is yourself. You will always be worthy and you will always be enough. Never think otherwise.

Find mental strength:

Even if you’re confident and comfortable with yourself, it’s difficult to stay mentally strong in a world where women are taught to attain certain standards of beauty. However you find mental strength, make sure it’s part of your daily life like writing or talking with a friend.

I hope you feel more blissful knowing you can feel confident even with features you don’t necessarily love. Remember that you’re beautiful and your imperfections are part of that beauty.

Feeling comfortable in your own skin

Most of my posts about beauty are DIY recipes, product wish lists, etc. Today’s post doesn’t fit into one of those categories. The more I read about women and their insecurities makes me want to write more posts about the topic.

Today, we are talking about confidence, insecurities and more beauty standards. Unfortunately, the world we live in creates these standards of beauty; and women were supposed to fit these standards. You may know some of these example: sleek, shiny hair, clear skin, perfectly groomed bodies at all times—the list can go on and on. But not all women have the genes for every “perfect” feature society deems necessary.

So that’s why I think it’s time we get comfortable.

Not all of us have gorgeous hair. If you see me in humidity, my frizz stands out like no other. My hair isn’t perfectly straight, sleek and shiny. Most days, I don’t blow dry my hair or straighten it. I prefer my natural curls. We should be comfortable with our natural hair.

Not all of us have clear skin. Sometimes we eat, drink and don’t take care of our skin the way we should; or we follow the “clear skin bible” and still have blemishes. That doesn’t mean we should hide our faces with tons of makeup because we don’t want society to judge us. We should feel comfortable with a makeup-less face whenever we feel like it.

There’s also a standard that women should stay well-groomed: hair trim every six weeks, eyebrow wax every three weeks, other body waxes and shaving regularly. It never ends. If you don’t want to keep up with grooming every single day then it’s time to get comfortable with yourself.

I think it’s important to mention that it’s okay if you feel comfortable with a full face of makeup, grooming daily, spending time on your hair, etc. There is nothing wrong with taking the time to maintain yourself. However, I think it’s also important to know it’s okay if you don’t want to do those things. Sometimes, we feel pressured to live a certain way that we become comfortable with doing things we don’t want to do.

I’m here to tell you that it’s okay to be yourself—your natural features are beautiful and you don’t deserve to do things just for the name of beauty. It’s time women create their own standards because we are flawless no matter what our features are.

Why you should exfoliate

Keeping up with a beauty routine can be exhausting for women. We need to learn about all these different regimens and products that are “vital” to our routine. But how can we incorporate these beauty habits in our routine without breaking the bank? How do we know what is necessary and what isn’t?

Hopefully, this post will shed light on the importance of exfoliating and how you can add in your routine with minimal spending. You’ll add some bliss in your life (especially your bank) when learning about exfoliating.

So why is exfoliating necessary?

Exfoliating, whether it’s your face or body, removes dead skin cells. This allows you to have brighter, clearer and smoother skin with minimal effort. It also acts as a deep clean for your pores, which removes any build up of sweat, acne, etc. You only need to exfoliate once to week for an effective clean.

All right, how much is this going to cost me?

That’s the best part of exfoliating—you can DIY exfoliating scrubs in your home. Chances are, you have the basic products to create different scrubs safe for your face and body. However, if you prefer to buy from the store, you can spend up to $30 or buy inexpensive ones.

I’ll stick with DIY. What’s you favorite recipe?

My go-to exfoliating scrub contains two ingredients. The best part is this helps to fade stretch marks on your body. Yep, that’s right. All you need are used coffee grounds and a little olive oil. I apply this on my skin and scrub consistently for about five minutes then rinse and shower as normal.

Some exfoliating scrubs are made with sugar and others with salt. What’s the difference?

Sugar scrubs are most often used on the face because they dissolve quickly in water and creates a mild scrub that won’t be harsh if you have sensitive skin. Most people recommend brown sugar in scrubs. Salt scrubs (sea salt not table salt) has anti-inflammatory properties, which is great if you have sore muscles in addition to clearing your pores. Normally, use sugar scrubs more often than salt scrubs because it’s not as rough on the skin.

Beauty: Be your own kind of beautiful

I’m writing another blog post that was inspired when I wasn’t thinking about blogging at all. I’ve realized this is when I write based on passion instead of forcing creativity.

I stumbled across an Instagram account where the girl (keeping identity private) had a decent following. Her photos and videos were of her doing her makeup. I thought they were all stunning and unique. I appreciate when anyone has the guts to put themselves out there to the world.

Of course, everyone does their makeup differently; and I noticed people were leaving rude comments about how she was doing her makeup. Some comments included: “You’re only wearing so much makeup because you have no confidence” and “Real women aren’t afraid of showing their natural beauty.”

I was astounded.

I know there are mean people in the world, but there’s something that needs to be addressed here. Any individual should be able to do (or not do) whatever they want with their body. In this example, women who don’t wear makeup are just as beautiful as women who do wear makeup. Whether or not someone does their makeup should not define how beautiful they are.

This also goes back to a topic that has been discussed about frequently: women hating on other women. Women have it hard enough. We are constantly dealing with beauty standards and diminishing our self-esteem. Instead of tearing each other down, we need to lift each other up and be kind. We are in this together.

Let’s be honest; we are all different. And while some of us prefer to wear a face full of makeup everyday, some of us don’t. Some of us prefer to have tattoos, and some of us don’t. Some of us like to color our hair differently every month, and some of us have never colored our hair before. Regardless of what the scenario is, beauty isn’t a one-size-fits-all concept.

Every woman (and human being in general) deserves to feel beautiful in their own way. If you don’t have a similar taste, that’s okay. It’s just like clothing: we all have different styles, but one style isn’t better than the other.

Remember to be your own kind of beautiful; regardless of how you may define the word “beautiful.” You are worthy of expressing yourself and worthy of a life where you feel confident in your own skin.

How to: Wash your hair [the right way]

I know what you’re thinking, “I already know how to wash my hair.” You might, but there is always room for improvement in the beauty world. Who knows, maybe you’ll learn something new about hair care, or you can teach a friend about these tips. If you’re looking to add some bliss to your roots, read these tips:

Wash your hair with cool water:

We all love and appreciate hot showers, but hot water damages your hair. It strips your hair of necessary moisture and oils, and increases your chance of split ends. If you can manage standing under a cool shower for five minutes, your hair will thank you.

Be mindful of how much shampoo you use:

The truth is, most of us way more shampoo than is necessary for a wash; and we wash too often. In reality, you should wash your hair every other day or every few days with only a quarter-sized amount of shampoo. This will help keep the natural oils healthy and clean.

Only lather shampoo at your scalp:

Why? Because you only need to shampoo the hair at the scalp. The best way to lather up is at your roots. The hair closest to the scalp is the youngest and most likely the oiliest, whereas the ends of your hair is the oldest and most likely the driest.

Apply conditioner wisely:

You only need conditioner at the ends of your hair. Don’t condition near the roots (for the same reason above). Your roots are naturally more oily, which means your ends need more love. Apply conditioner halfway down your hair to the tips. Leave in for two minutes and rinse.

Be mindful about how you dry your hair:

Stay away from hot tools as often as possible. They cause damage and breakage to your hair. Also, don’t be too quick to put your hair in a towel. This tugs and pulls on your hair (also causing damage). Instead, wrap your hair in a big cotton T-shirt.

Everyone wants flawless, model-worthy skin. But what tips are most important to help your skin? I’ve compiled a list of my top 10 tips to achieve perfect skin. You’ll add bliss to your life knowing you’ve found the right information on keeping your skin clear and clean.

Put the right food on your face:

DIY beauty is great because it’s inexpensive and effective. However, if you’re putting the wrong ingredients on your face, you won’t be helping your skin. Make sure you read and research what foods you should put on your skin for best results.

Never skip moisturizer:

Find a day moisturizer, a night moisturizer and use them religiously. Never skip on moisturizer even if you have oily skin. Your skin thinks you’re lacking oil and it will produce more oils, which can cause breakouts. A little goes a long way.

Know your skin type:

If you have oily skin, but you’re using products for dry skin, you’re not helping your skin. Make sure you know your skin type and buy the right products. This will make a huge difference in your skin care routine and how your skin looks overall.

Exfoliate:

Some people are intimidated about exfoliation, but it’s great in moderation. Once a week, exfoliate your entire body including your face. This will remove dead skin cells and brighten your skin. You’ll notice your skin shining all week long.

Skip the tanning bed:

This tip is obvious. Aside from getting skin cancer, tanning also causes premature wrinkles and can cause aging. It’s okay to have a beach day (if you’re wearing proper SPF) but don’t go to the tanning bed. This doesn’t help your skin in any way.

Get your beauty rest:

There’s a reason they call it “beauty” rest. Sleep helps restore your entire body including your skin. If you’re sleeping around 7 to 8 hours a night, you’re helping your skin restore itself. Don’t be afraid of extra rest for beauty health and physical health.

Wash your face (no excuses):

If you don’t remove your makeup or wash your face every morning and night, you’re breaking the cardinal skin care rule. You need to wash your face twice a day, everyday. No excuses. This removes bacteria, which decreases chances of acne problems.

Eat a balanced diet:

The food you put into your system also affects your skin. You can find a list of foods that benefit your skin. Make sure you’re eating fresh fruits, veggies in addition to healthy fats (like avocados). This will help your overall health including your skin.

Don’t be afraid to sweat:

Working out is not only beneficial for your physical, mental and emotional health, but it’s also good for your skin. Sweating removes toxins from your body. As long as you’re washing your face regularly, sweating will decrease your risk in breakouts, redness and other skin problems.

Water is your best friend:

I put this tip last because I want it to stick with you. You need to hydrate properly every single day. Aim for eight glasses of eight ounces of water. This flushes out toxins in your system and help keep skin glowing bright and get rid of acne, redness, etc.

For girls, beauty is an essential component of our daily routine; but there are a slew of rules we need to follow regularly in order to keep up with our hygiene. If you’re breaking these five rules, you might want to correct them if you want to better your beauty routine. You’ll add a little bliss to your life knowing you’re following these cardinal beauty rules.

Matching foundation to the back of your hand:

Most people in the makeup aisle are guilty of this. The results are harsh lines on your neck because you didn’t properly match the shade to your skin. The best place to find your match is on your neck. Even if your neck is lighter than your face, the makeup will all blend naturally.

Sleeping in your makeup:

I don’t know how anyone can sleep in their makeup. If you have continuous breakouts, it could be due to your nighttime routine. Remove makeup with makeup remover wipes, wash your face with a cleanser and apply night moisturizer. No exceptions. Your skin will thank you.

Keeping makeup for too long:

You don’t want to waste a product, but you know that keeping your color foundation from June won’t do any good in October. If it has been a few months since you have last used a product, it’s best to toss it. Old makeup can cause breakouts and buildup in your pores.

Wearing the wrong shade of concealer:

People think you should buy concealer the same shade as your foundation to better hide dark circles, puffiness, etc. However, you should buy concealer two shades lighter when applying under your eyes. This highlights and defines the area without exposing problem areas.

Not cleaning your makeup brushes:

This problem definitely affects your hygiene negatively. Think about it: caking on makeup from the same brush you use daily for months on end isn’t healthy. You should clean your makeup brushes at least once a week to avoid acne or bacteria build up on your skin.

Avocados are a staple power food that everyone should incorporate into his or her diet. You can also incorporate avocados in your beauty routine. Limes:

Whether you’re using a lime for a chicken fiesta salad or on your body for a citrus scrub, limes are packed with invigorating nutrients your skin will love. Create a body scrub with sugar, olive oil and the pulp from a lime for a skin treatment that will leave your skin smooth.

Grapes:

Do you have oily skin during spring and summer? Grapes might be the answer to your problems. The acidity in grapes will help combat oily skin. You can create a grape, skin treatment by mixing honey, grapes, and yogurt. Apply once a week for fresh, oil-free skin.

1. Is your hair naturally curly or straight?

2. Do you dye it yourself or go to a salon?

True story, I’ve never dyed my hair before. I’m too afraid to.

3. Do you wear the same style everyday, or do you change it?

It depends on the day. When I wash my hair, I leave it natural. On second day hair, I curl it.

4. Do you do your own mani/pedi or go to a salon?

Most of the time, I go to a salon.

5. How often do you change your nail polish?

Not that often. I keep my nails natural most of the time.

6. Do you polish your toes in the winter or just the summer?

I keep my toes painted even in the winter. I’m just less concerned if they chip. In the summer, I make sure they’re done.

7. How long does it take for you to put on makeup?

10 minutes or less.

8. What do you do first? Face or eyes?

Face.

9. Do you collect makeup or just buy what you need when you need it?

Buy it when I need it. I don’t want to buy something unless I know I’m going to use it.

10. How often do you wear false eyelashes?

I have never worn false eyelashes. If you couldn’t tell, I prefer to keep my look natural.

11. Do you do a full face of makeup everyday?

Never! I don’t wear foundation. I just apply concealer under my eyes and over any pimples.

12. Do you wear makeup when you’re home alone or with family?

No. Unless I have plans to leave the house.

13. Will you leave the house without makeup?

To go to the gym or to run some errands, but most of the time I’ll at least have the basics on (concealer, blush, eyebrow pencil and mascara).

14. How many high-end products do you have?

Most of my skin and face products are high end because I have sensitive skin, so I need to be mindful of what I use. Almost all of my makeup is either Lancôme and Estēe Lauder, which are both high end.

15. Do you plan your OOTD every night or decide when you’re getting dressed?


It depends on the day. Oftentimes, I have an idea of my outfit the night before, but I don’t set everything out. If I have an event or special occasion, my outfit is planned.

16. How often do you change your handbag?

Not often. Since my boyfriend bought my Michael Kors bag for Christmas, I don’t use anything else.

When we are bombarded with work, school, internships or other responsibilities, we tend to forget to take care of ourselves the way we truly deserve. I’m sharing five self-care tips you should treat yourself to every week. If you’re looking to add some bliss in your life (and routine) keep on reading.

1. Catch some Zzz’s:

Beauty rest is important. You should at least get seven hours of sleep each night. However, if you find yourself only sleeping five or six hours a night, treat yourself to nine hours of sleep to catch up on so much needed rest. You’ll feel energized to take on the week.

2. Be outside in nature:

Walking on a trail or on the beach can do wonders for your health, mood and spirit. You should always treat yourself to some vitamin D (from the sun) and clear your mind by appreciating the beautiful world around you. This will relieve any stress and prepare you for a busy day or week.

3. Meditate and reflect:

Try to incorporate mediation and reflection in your life. Even if it’s for 10 minutes a day, it’s important to calm the mind and body. Or, you can reflect on your list of goals you have accomplished or create new goals you plan to accomplish. This will help relax your mind.

4. Cleanse your system:

Take the week to detox your body. Be mindful of what you put into your system. Eat plenty of vegetables, fresh fruit and protein. Cut out any processed foods or foods that make you feel bloated. You’ll feel refreshed, healthy and capable of accomplishing any tasks for the week.

5. Treat yourself:

I like to take time on Sunday to treat myself whether it’s an at-home spa day (mani/pedi, face mask, hair mask, etc.) or watching a movie that will give me an educated perspective. Regardless of how you treat yourself, make sure it’s a healthy treat because you deserve to feel good.

We all have mornings where we want a few extra minutes of rest, and we realize we are running late. Or, you’re trying to save money on beauty products because (let’s be honest) they are expensive. Whether you’re having a lazy day or you’re trying to save some money, here are five beauty hacks you need in your life right now:

1. Don’t want to wash your hair, but you don’t have dry shampoo?

Try baby powder: I prefer to use baby powder over dry shampoo sometimes. It adds a ton of volume to your locks and baby powder ALWAYS smells good. Simply dab some in the oily parts of your hair. Plus, you’ll save money not spending $5 on a small bottle of dry shampoo.

2. Don’t want to spend $15 on a lip-plumping serum for your lips?

Try peppermint oil: Peppermint has natural, lip-plumping properties. Have you ever used a mint, menthol lip balm and your lips feel tingly? That’s due to the essential oils. Apply some drop of this oil in your lip gloss (or a homemade scrub) and you’ll have luscious lips.

3. Want your lips to have a matte finish without spending money on MAC products?

Use concealer: Apply concealer on your lips before applying your lipstick. If it has a glossy finish, the concealer will help to create a matte finish. Instead of going out and spending money on a high-end MAC product, you can use what you own to achieve the same look!

4. Need dry hair, but don’t want to use a hairdryer?

Try a T-shirt: Hear me out. Wrapping your hair in a T-shirt will not only dry it faster, but also it will help your hair from damages. Towels pull on the roots of your hair, which causes breakage. T-shirts are safer and healthier than heat or towels.

5. Trying to fight under-eye puffiness?

Put spoons in the fridge: If you don’t want to spend money on under eye products that fight puffiness, place two metal spoons in the fridge before bed. When you wake up in the morning, place the spoons under your eyes. This will reduce swelling instantly.

I love when I can finally swap out my winter lip colors for my spring lip colors. It’s like packing away all your thick sweaters and bringing out your skirts for the season; it’s both refreshing and exciting. I decided to share my top four lip colors I’ve been wearing for spring so far. If you’re not sure what colors you should be wearing this season, keep reading to add a little bliss to your makeup routine.

1. Estēe Lauder pure color lip gloss (shade Peach Glass):

I love peach hues on my lips for spring. It’s subtle if you prefer natural makeup with little effort. I’d definitely recommend Estēe Lauder lip glosses because of the quality.

2. Elizabeth Arden beautiful color lip gloss (shade Red Door Red):

Red gloss is for winter; but I make this color work for spring by pairing it with light-pink lipsticks. I love how hydrating and pigmented it is for spring. Just match it with light colors.

3. Kiko Makeup Milano lipstick (shade 911):

My go-to product is from Kiko, which I bought in Italy. I love that this is the perfect shade for spring and summer. It’s a light pink, but you can build it up for a bolder and brighter lip.

4. Revlon just bitten kissable balm stain (shade Lovesick):

When I need a product that will last all day, I use this lip product. The color is rich and vibrant for spring and summer. If you prefer a bold color, I would definitely recommend this product.

The secrets are easier than you think. These five simple, effective tips will leave you with skin your friends will envy. You’ll add some bliss in your daily routine with clearer, brighter skin.

Don’t wear a full face of makeup everyday:

Many people struggle with this because they’re not confident with their skin. Wearing less makeup will clear your skin. Instead of wearing foundation, wear concealer in problem areas. This will allow your skin to breathe. Plan one day a week to wear no makeup.

Use a makeup remover and skin cleanser every night:

Some people are lazy and will use a makeup remover wipe, but won’t cleanse their skin or vice verse. Your nighttime skin routine can make or break how clear your skin is. Always remove your makeup, and follow-up with a cleanser, moisturizer, eye cream, etc.

Drink water:

A lot of people don’t realize that they’re not drinking enough water. Not only does this affect your overall health, but also your complexion. Well-hydrated skin helps balance your skin tone, decrease the number of breakouts, etc. Try drinking less soda and juices and more water.

Find breakout causes:

Wash your pillow cases once a week, clean your cell phone regularly and keep your hands off your skin. These are three of the many reasons why people have breakouts. Find what beauty blunder you’re making and correct it. It’ll save your time and money on acne products.

Moisturize twice a day:

Find two moisturizers that you love: one for the morning and one for night. If possible, splurge a little on your products and your skin will thank you. Make sure you apply them religiously on a daily basis. Choose a day moisturizer with SPF in it to protect your skin.

With spring in full swing and summer just around the corner, it’s time to try new products that will prepare my skin for warmer weather. Here are my top 5 picks for April:

Cheek Stain:

Cheek stains are perfect for spring and summer because they’re lightweight and natural looking. Although I was once skeptical about this type of product, I’ve read so many reviews about how people won’t use regular blush anymore. I’m looking to see if this is worth the hype.

Bronzer Blush:

With summer just around the corner, it’s time to pull out bronzer for that natural summer glow. I love wearing bronzer in spring and summer, which is why I’m looking for a combination of both blush and bronze tones in a palette.

Cleansing Oil:

When my friend told me that she uses an oil-based cleanser to remove her makeup, I was definitely judging her. But, this is another products that I’ve learned to love, and look forward to try in replace of makeup remover wipes.

Mask:

Charcoal is well-known for removing blackheads, whiteheads and brightening your skin overall. It’s also great for minimizing pores, which is an added bonus. I’ve been looking for new masks to try, and I think a charcoal mask is just what I need to prep my skin for spring weather.

Body Wash:

If raspberry sorbet doesn’t sound like a summer treat, then I don’t know what does. I love scents that put me in the mood for a particular season. As much as I love spring, I’m still looking forward to summer. This clarifying product is perfect for the upcoming months.

5 Beauty Hacks For Spring

bb33015I love DIY beauty treatments. They’re inexpensive, and you most likely have the ingredients at home. What more could you ask for? Now that spring is officially here, it’s time to refresh your hair and skin with life-changing beauty fixes. If you want to add a little bliss to your life, try these five beauty hacks:

For white teeth, try charcoal:

Okay, so you might not have this laying around your house. But, it can be found online or at a store. You’ll need one capsule of activated charcoal when brushing your teeth. Add some with toothpaste on a toothbrush and brush normally. You’ll notice a difference in a few days.

For stretch marks, try coffee grounds:

Coffee scrubs are a great way to remove unwanted stretch marks. Especially for spring, you want to show off your legs with confidence. All you need is leftover coffee grounds and olive oil. Apply on any areas with stretch marks. Repeat this twice a week for effective results.

For blackheads, try gelatin:

This is the first time I’ve heard of this trick. It mimics a DIY version of Biore strips. Mix 1 tbsp Knox Unflavored Gelatin with 2 tbsp of milk in a plastic cup. Microwave mixture for 10 to 15 seconds and apply to face immediately. This will remove impurities on your skin.

For a smooth shave, try Vaseline:

If you want your skin to feel extra smooth for spring, apply a healthy amount on your legs before shaving. This will open your pores while shaving, so you won’t have razor bumps or irritation. It’ll also sink into your skin and moisturize for a better shave.

For shiny hair, try coconut oil:

This is my favorite beauty hack. I apply coconut oil raw to my hair and leave it in for 20 minutes. After, I’ll shampoo my hair as normal and apply a dime-sized amount of conditioner to my hair. My hair looks flawless every time. I try to do this once a month for best results.

As warmer weather approaches, you can feel a little bliss knowing spring is just around the corner. Try these three tips to refresh your makeup for spring:

Go neutral:

If you’re not ready to pull out spring and summer eyeshadow shades, fear not! You can easily rock a neutral look on a day-to-day basis. Just find two shades that complement your skin tone (one light and one dark) and apply to define your eyes. Buy a small eyeshadow palette that has a few different options, like this palette from Sephora. You can mix up your makeup and look refreshed.

Pops of pink:

Blush and lipstick can go unnoticed, but they’re two places where the season play an important role. Berry-toned blushes and lipsticks are popular in fall and winter, but now that spring is quickly approaching, changing to light pink hues is your best option. I love Hibiscus Pop from Maybelline. This can double as a cream blush. Just apply a small amount on your cheeks and blend.

Lighten your base:

Wearing foundation every day can leave your skin feeling damaged and dry after a long winter. Try to skip out on foundation a few days each week. Instead, use concealer to cover any dark circles or pimples. Allowing your skin breathe will clear it of any blemishes or irritation. If you need more coverage, opt for a BB or CC cream, which is lighter than foundation.

BB31615There are a lot of people who are questioning their skin type, so don’t feel bad if you’re not sure where your skin lies on the spectrum. It’s important to know your skin type because it’ll help you buy the best products to help your skin’s health. There are a few simple factors to consider with your skin to determine your skin type. You’ll add a little bliss in your routine when you learn the benefits of knowing what products to buy to help your skin.

First, there are four categories your skin type can fall under: oily, dry, normal or combination. Second, there are three main factors you want to consider regarding your skin: amount of blemishes, pores and sensitivity. You need to take this into consideration when purchasing products because it can make or break how clear your skin is. Let’s break this down by skin type.

Oily:

Those with oily skin are more apt to have large pores, shiny skin with an above average amount of blemishes, blackheads and breakouts. You know you have oily skin if your skin feels greasy or appears shiny.

Dry:

People who identify with dry skin have pores that are invisible. However, they also have an overall dull, rough complexion. They are likely to have red, blotchy patches or general irritation. You have dry skin if you have light acne but strong sensitivity.

Normal:

People who have normal skin are considered the lucky ones. They have few to no imperfections, no visible pores, no sensitivity, and their complexion is generally radiant. But, this doesn’t mean you can skin on cleanser, moisturizer, etc.

Combination:

For people who have combination skin,  you have large pores with some blemishes and blackheads. The problem with combination skin is that you can have some areas of your skin feel dry and other sections appear oily.

Beauty Basics: Choosing the Perfect Red Lipstick

You’re feeling more confident that normal, so you want to add a little glam to your makeup look. A red lipstick is always a great go-to item if you want to try something different. But, you’re left looking for the right shade and you’re wondering how to tell if one shade looks better than another. Or, if you can even pull off red lipstick at all.

First, you CAN pull of red lipstick. Don’t have any doubts about that. However, there are a few simple tips to find the right shade of red lipstick for you. With these three steps, you’ll add the bliss back to your life and look confident with shining red lips.

Define your undertone:

Skin tones have a wide range, but it’s easy to identify based on two different tones: warm and cool. Not sure what your skin tone is? No worries. One way to test your skin tone is by looking at your veins on your wrist. If your veins appear to look green, you have a warmer skin tone. If your veins appear blue, you have a cool skin tone. If you’re still unsure about the test, asking an employee at the makeup counter is always an option.

Choose shades that complement your undertone:

If you have a warm skin tone, you’re going to want to choose red lipstick that comes with warm undertones like orange-red, etc. If you have a cool skin tone, you will want to find shades with cool undertones like blue-red.

Try different brands:

Don’t just try one brand of lipstick. Instead, try a few inexpensive brands and expensive brands because they have different formulas. You’ll test what brand works best for you! Some of my favorite brands are Estēe Lauder and Revlon for lipsticks. They both have a wide variety and have excellent quality.

Beauty Basics: Should You Use a Toner

BB3215Everyone wants to achieve that flawless, model glow similar to Miranda Kerr. But, how do you know what products to buy? A product that has been talked about is a toner. But, what is a toner and how do you know if you should use one?

First, a toner is applied after cleansing your skin to remove any remaining impurities and residue left on your skin. It also helps to restore the natural balance of your skin. Although this sounds like a great product, it can leave your skin very dry because of a high alcohol content. This is great news for people who have acne-prone or oily skin. But, it’s important to know (for those with other skin types) that toners strip your skin of any oils on your skin (even good oils). But, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use this product altogether.

People who have naturally oily skin will always benefit from a toner in their beauty routine. However, for those who don’t have oily skin, you can still use this product if you know your skin type. It’s important to know this so that you can use an effective treatment.

Here are some great toners based on your skin type:

1. Normal to dry skin:

If you have normal or dry skin, you want to find an alcohol-free toner that will soothe and moisturize it. Your skin feeling refreshed as it restores its natural pH balance.

2. Combination skin:

With combination skin, you want to purify your pores without any harsh irritations. This toner is preservative-free and will leave your skin clean, clear, and free of shine without drying it out.

3. Oily skin:

This formula features witch hazel to control oil and tighten pores. It also contains grape seed extract and vitamin E to protect skin from any damaging.

4. Acne-prone skin:

You want to have a toner that is enriched with salicylic acid to kill bacteria, regulate oil production, and clear blemishes. It will dry out your imperfections without damaging your skin.

Three $30 and under beauty items

We all have those beauty items that we use consistently until the product is gone. I have been using the three above products every day throughout the month of February, which is why I decided to share them with you. High-quality products that are inexpensive are my favorite purchases. I love fining products like this because they add a little happiness to my beauty routine.

Shea Cashmere cream: I love this product because it’s a luxurious cream that I can carry around with me. This winter has left my skin feeling dry and damaged, but Bath & Body Work never fails to produce quality products at inexpensive prices. Most of my favorite body products are from Bath & Body Works.

Bi-Facil makeup remover: As much as I love makeup remover wipes, they tend to leave my eyes feeling dry and irritated. This product from Lancôme is my favorite because one bottle lasts for a few months, and you won’t have to worry about eye irritation. Although this is a little pricey, it’s well worth the investment.

Lipstick (shade- Envious): I have been on the hunt for my perfect shade of red lipstick for the last few months, and I finally found my perfect shade from Estēe Lauder. What I love about this lipstick is that it doesn’t dry out my lips, which is great for winter. It also lasts all-day long, which is perfect for the girl who has a busy schedule.

My favorite DIY treatments include products you probably have at home right now. The best part is that you won’t spend a lot of money and you’ll see great results.

It’s time to add the bliss back to your life and your wallet with DIY beauty essentials. Here are my top five favorite at-home ingredients:

Coconut Oil

Whether you’re using this as a teeth whitener, face mask or hair mask, coconut oil can be used for different purposes. It’s inexpensive and you can buy a large jar that will last for months on end. The possibilities are endless with this versatile ingredient.

Honey

Another favorite ingredient I use regularly is raw honey. I apply this on my skin as a face mask. It’s perfect for removing impurities and acne on your face. It will also leave your skin smooth and refreshed. You can also use honey for hair masks.

Avocados

We all have used avocados for one treatment or another. You can use this to make different masks for your hair or face. I love the shine avocados add to your hair. It’s natural, radiant properties leave your hair looking fresh from the salon.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is my go-to treatment to remove blackheads or whiten your teeth. Who knew baking soda was so versatile? Although it’s a simple product you might not use often (except for baking) you’d be surprised what you can create with this ingredient.

Strawberries

I love uses strawberries for DIY face masks and teeth whitener. Strawberries fight against acne and other harmful bacteria that hide in your pores. You can also create a paste with strawberries and baking soda to add a natural shine to your smile.

Five beauty essentials for a lazy day

bb2.2MonIn my last post, I asked if you wanted to read five beauty essentials for a lazy day, which many of you requested. I know we all don’t have much time every morning to put on a full face of makeup and straighten or curl our hair. On lazy days, you need the bare essentials. Here are my top five products to add the bliss back to your lazy-day beauty routine:

Dry shampoo

I cannot live with dry shampoo, especially this one from TRESemmé. I buy three bottles at a time just so I don’t run out. It’s my favorite product that I swear by. On days that I don’t wash my hair, I apply dry shampoo to the oily sections of my scalp. It remove oils and adds volume you can’t get with washed hair.

Concealer

On lazy days, which happen more often than not, I skip applying a BB/CC cream and apply concealer under my eyes to hide any dark spots or blemishes. You don’t need a full face of makeup to cover up problem areas.

Brow pencil/filler

Your eyebrows define your face, so it’s important to give them the attention they need (even when you’re feeling lazy). It only take a minute to fill in your brows, but the difference is worth the 60 seconds of time. Remember with the brows that less is more. You want to make them look as natural as possible.

Mascara

No one has time for eyeshadow, primers, and eyeliner. But, you do need mascara. Why? Because your lashes make your eyes look more awake. With a little volume and length from mascara, you’ll look like you put time into your routine, even though you’re having a lazy day.

Blush

A little blush goes a long way. Adding a pop of color to your cheeks will make you look ready to take on the day. You can skip bronzer and highlighter because blush will give your skin the glow it needs. The most natural your blush color, the better.

When in doubt, hydrate:

Your body and your skin suffer from dehydration in the winter. It’s important to drink as much water throughout the day to flush out any toxins and keep your skin clear. Track your water intake by keeping a water bottle with you throughout the day. You’ll notice a significant decrease in acne, dryness and dullness. Make water your BFF.

Try DIY:

Use natural products to help repair your skin. Some great options are honey, strawberries, yogurt and lemons. Give your skin a break from acne treatments and moisturizers, which contain chemicals that cause irritation to skin. Natural alternatives will cleanse your skin and repair it from any damages.

Reduce stress:

Whether you’re stressed from school, work, an internship or a relationship, try to remove any unnecessary stress in your life. Your skin is more prone to stress acne during winter, so finding ways to relax throughout the week is important for your skin and for your overall health. Here are some easy ways to reduce stress.

Everyday makeup routine

I love reading and watching daily makeup routines because I’m curious to see what products people use every day. This is the first time I’m writing my “routine” on Blissfully Brunette, and I would love your feedback on what you think of this post! Make sure to leave comments below.

I begin my routine with a clean, moisturized face. Like this post if you want an updated skincare routine! I apply the La Base Pro primer on my face and apply concealer (maquicomplet by Lancôme) under my eyes. I blend out my concealer with the Sephora sponge. I prefer a sponge to apply concealer and BB creams rather than a brush because it makes my makeup look more natural. My Lancôme blush is in the shade 385 (Shimmer Plum Affaire) which I apply subtly to my cheeks. I don’t wear foundation or BB/CC Creams because I don’t like heavy makeup on a day-to-day basis.

Next, I fill in my eyebrows with the Elizabeth Arden brow shaper. I love this product because it lasts for a long time. After applying the Urban Decay eyeshadow primer potion, I apply the Lancôme color design eyeshadow in the shade 122 (all that brightens). I love the subtle gold color in this eyeshadow. For eyeliner, I apply the Lancôme liner designs (color-black fishnets). I have been loving this instead of liquid liner. It makes it so easy to draw winged eyeliner on my eyes. To finish my makeup, I apply two coats of the définicils mascara. I recommend this mascara to anyone because it adds extra length and volume to your lashes.

What I love most about this primer is that it’s ideal for all skin types. Most of the time, I find primers to leave my skin either feeling too greasy or my makeup feels caked on. I have found this to be especially true with the Benefit POREfessional primer. This one costs just as much as La Base Pro, but it’s not the same quality as Lancôme. Because of this, I had to stop wearing foundation, BB or CC creams altogether. Since using this product, I have found I can wear any type of foundation or BB/CC cream.IMG_2753

La Base pro has five stars on the Lancôme site. I also am giving this product five stars because I can officially wear BB creams again without my makeup feeling caked on. If you find that you have combination skin (some areas oily and some areas are dry) this will work perfectly with your skin tone. It won’t leave your skin too greasy and will leave your makeup looking professionally applied.

Product Review: Garnier Fructis hair mask

I love giving my hair extra TLC when it’s dry and damaged. As much as I love creating my own hair masks, I decided to search for an inexpensive treatment that would correct my hair. I received the Garnier Fructis damage-eraser, strength-reconstructing butter hair mask for Christmas. This product is $4.99 at local drugstores, Walmart, Target, etc.

This hair mask brings life to damaged, distressed hair. It creates strong, rejuvenated hair that is soft, silky and shiny. It is extra moisturizing for dry and over-processed hair. This butter leaves your hair feeling more manageable and strong. After shampooing, apply mask to hair, leave on for 3 to 5 minutes, and rinse.

I love the price of this product for the amount that you receive in the tub ($4.99 for 8.5 fl oz). In comparison to two other hair masks: L’Occitane repairing mask ($34 for 6.7 fl oz) or the Leonor Greyl Paris hair mask ($145 for 7 oz). Garnier Fructis is definitely more affordable if you’re on a budget.

Another positive is how well it corrects your hair after one use. I noticed instant shine and silkiness to my hair after using the product one time. Instant results are great with a hair mask. Especially if you plan to use is before a special occasion. Not to mention, it smells delicious!

Overall, I give this hair mask a five out of five stars. In addition to great quality and quantity, it’s affordable for those who are on a budget, which is perfect for a college student or a recent graduate. Your hair health doesn’t need to suffer just because you’re on a budget. It’s easy to find inexpensive items that give positive results.
